Almost Free!

Sorry there's been a lack of responses! I'll pot more reviews and things soon! (Also some cosplay updates hoho!) I'm going home this weekend to get my camera charger, so the image quality will greatly increase thankfully! (〃∇〃)

These last couple of weeks have been a bit crazy! I had two essays due at the same time, one that was for critical thinking and one for my Chaucer course 。°(°´Д｀°)°。I've never written anything for critical thinking (it was a logic course) so I was really stressed about it because the style of writing is really different than a literary essay!! I'm no stranger to essays since I'm an English major. Thankfully it was short-- only 6 pages.

The Chaucer essay was 18 pages though.. I basically had to spend a few weekends in the library in order to do enough research. I kind of like it though because the library is always so peaceful and I like the feeling of holding old books lol

I also had an exam today for my Chaucer class, but I think that one went fairly well. I would of liked to have had more time to study for it though. Oh well.

It's a weird feeling though, I was so stressed during the regular semester that it's actually a relief to only have exams to think about now.

Hectic workspace and no sleep

So last week was my reading week at school. It's a week where you have no classes, but the teachers assign all of their stuff around it so I find it isn't much of a break. I stress easily so it's never really fun..
I had a few projects that were due the same day that involved some extensive research. I now have a small mountain of books beside my chair on the floor.

I didn't get much sleep that week and I'm finding it hard to get back into my usual routine.

On the other hand I did my nails!!

It's kinda like a reverse zebra effect? maybe?

Tips for post-secondary students!

Hey everyone, while I'm finishing up my first week of classes, I thought about sharing some tips with some of you who might be buying books for college/university this year!

(If there are some websites you've found helpful, or any other tips you've found useful, please share it with us below in the comments section!)

So here's my quick guide to getting the most out of your bank account when shopping for textbooks:

• Keep an eye out for student flyers.

Older students who have taken the compulsory courses you're taking might have books you need! Also, it's easier to negotiate the price with them, since they're likely to want to get rid of the book very badly. (For instance, see if you can get some money off by noticing some highlighting or if the cover is in poor shape) Look in your residence lobby, cafeteria, and other message boards for these flyers!

• In your school book store, try to buy used first.

In many cases, the used books are up to 30% cheaper than cover price! Also, I've found that some used books look just as good as the new books... score!

• Wait until your first class before buying books.

In my experience, the first class of any course I've taken is just an introductory class. They won't expect you to have read even a chapter of the book, so why not hold off until buying your books? I say this because the prof might have changed a textbook (say an old edition to the latest). This will save you the hassle of returning books you don't need.

• If you already own the book, but it's not the same publisher, ask the prof for advice.

You may find that (for example) in your English Literature class, the prof has asked you to buy Frankenstein as part of the course material. Luckily, your sister has a copy but it's not by the same publishing company. Instead of buying a new copy, try and ask your prof if the one you already have would be sufficient for the course. More than likely, the prof won't care.. just make sure you aren't missing anything too critical in the recommended edition! (example, the 1818 edition of Frankenstein versus the non 1818 version)

• Does your bookstore allow you to rent books?

I've heard some bookstores do... ask the cashier, or keep your eye open for signs. You can even try going to their website.

All-in-all I hoped this helped a little! Buying used books is great, especially if it's an elective or general course you're forced to take in order to fulfill a degree requirement. If it's a subject you don't care much about, then why buy new??

For instance, my 'The Riverside Chaucer' book (a collection of his works) costs $142.95 when bought new. I got it for $107.25 when bought used and I can't tell the difference between the used and new book other than the 'USED' sticker on the spine!

While it may not seem much at first, a little savings can go a long way when you also need to save for transportation (visiting the fam for Christmas?) or perhaps getting out of your dorm to see a movie with friends every once in a while!

Course Selection

Hi everyone! It's a pretty slow week, so I'll fill the gap with some post about my courses for next year! :D

As some of you may know, I'm going into my second year of university! Last year was very exciting, so I hope to have just as much (if not more fun) next year! So here are the courses I chose:

• Literary Theory
• Chaucer
• Contemporary and Modern Drama
• Critical Thinking 
• Perfectionnement orale et écrit I et II (They're semester courses)

French and Critical Thinking are required because I need to take French in order to go to this campus and Critical Thinking because it's a mandatory course to 'brighten my horizons' as they say.... I hate it lol

I was actually really disappointed because I wanted to start working on my requirements for my art minor, but I unknowingly missed the deadline to submit a portfolio. So next year for sure, I'll be on top of it! (Plus it gives me some time to beef it up a bit since I haven't had the time to paint anything recently...)

Another thing I was disappointed about was the French course I had to take (and now that I think about it, I might be able to do something about it). Because I'm not trying to get a certificate, all I needed to take was one 2nd year level course and then I would never have to take french EVER AGAIN whoooo~ but no. It's never that easy I guess...

And then with all of these courses, any other courses I wanted to take at the other campus conflicted (given the actual lecture schedule and transportation time etc.)

So next year will be a little boring... oh well! I at least have no courses Monday until 6pm, no classes after 3 on Thursdays and no classes Friday! Pretty awesome.... free time for meeee~!

I'm thinking about school for next year while my little brother just finished his last day haha;;;
